Why remove graffiti fast — with the right method
涂鸦若不及时清除会吸引更多乱涂(Longmont 市政提示 graffiti encourages additional tagging)。不同材质吸收油漆程度不同:砖/混凝土等多孔材质会吸入油漆,比金属/玻璃更难清除;油漆类型(喷漆、马克笔、胶粘)与停留时间也决定难度。错误的高压设置会损伤表面——过高压会在砖面蚀刻出涂鸦轮廓,或在 EIFS 外墙打穿面层。
Left untreated, graffiti attracts more tagging (the City of Longmont notes graffiti "encourages additional tagging"). Porosity decides difficulty: brick and concrete absorb paint and are harder than non-porous metal or glass. Paint type (aerosol, marker, adhesive) and dwell time also matter. Wrong pressure damages surfaces — too much pressure etches a ghost outline into brick or punches through EIFS finishes.

General guidance (Stamford CT, Longmont CO, and professional guides): Uncoated/soft brick — chemical pre-treat first, then low-pressure rinse 800–1,500 PSI; avoid 3,000 PSI which causes spalling and drives pigment deeper. Sealed concrete / parking structures — 2,000–3,000 PSI for fresh tags; add chemical pre-soak for heavy or aged coverage. Wood — under 500 PSI with mild detergent, keep the nozzle at distance to avoid gouging; deep penetration needs sanding and repaint. Metal (doors, railings, containers) — 1,500–2,000 PSI; loosen paint with a solvent remover first, and test bare metal on a small area to avoid stripping base coat. Glass — low PSI plus a 30° razor scrape; EIFS and natural stone (limestone, marble) are chemical-only — any meaningful PSI permanently etches. Nozzle: a 15–25° fan for most jobs; hold 12–18 inches out and sweep top-down with overlap.

The most effective professional process is chemical pre-soak then hot-water flush, not raw pressure. Hot water at 140–180°F (about 60–82°C) temporarily opens pores on porous surfaces and accelerates paint polymer breakdown — shorter dwell, lower PSI, cleaner first pass. Sequence: pick a surface-matched remover → apply, dwell 5–15 min (longer for aged paint) → flush with calibrated hot water → neutralize per product and environmental protocol.
不可忽视:雨水截留与合规
Runoff containment & compliance
涂鸦清洗废水不是普通冲洗水——含溶解颜料、清除剂表面活性剂、老旧喷漆可能含重金属。多地将此类水排入雨水管视为违反本地雨水条例乃至《清洁水法》(Clean Water Act)。正确做法:用截留垫(containment mats)承接、或导流远离排水口,防止污染 stormwater,并使用可生物降解清除剂。
Graffiti wash water is not ordinary rinse water — it carries dissolved pigments, remover surfactants, and sometimes heavy metals from old spray paint. Many jurisdictions treat discharge to a storm drain as a violation of local stormwater ordinances and even the U.S. Clean Water Act. Use containment mats or redirect flow away from drains, and choose biodegradable removers.
