True microfiber is finer than 1 denier (premium 0.2–0.5 denier, about 1/100 of a human hair), usually an 80% polyester + 20% polyamide (nylon) blend split into wedge-shaped filaments during extrusion. The wedge edges hook particles, and rubbing generates static (triboelectric effect) that attracts dust—so it cleans with water alone; the polyamide is oleophilic and lifts grease. Lab tests show microfiber with water removes 99.9% of bacteria from surfaces (ASTM E2895) versus about 30% for cotton.

Microfiber absorbs about 7× its weight in water (cotton about 4–5×); it releases ~90% of water when wrung (cotton only ~50%) and dries in ~2–4 hours (cotton 12–24 hours). That makes microfiber better for spills, vehicle drying and frequent use. It is not for large-volume liquid (flooded floors)—use cotton towels there.

Choosing GSM weight and weave

超细纤维以 GSM(克/平方米)衡量厚薄:200–250 轻量适合玻璃与精密面;250–350 通用;350–500 重型适合抛光与擦干。织法上,terry(毛圈)吸水最强,waffle(蜂窝)玻璃无痕,suede(平绒)适合抛光。通用清洁选 300 GSM 毛圈超细纤维最为均衡。

Microfiber is rated by GSM (g/m²): 200–250 lightweight for glass and precision; 250–350 all-purpose; 350–500 heavy-duty for polishing and drying. Weaves: terry (looped) max absorbency, waffle streak-free glass, suede smooth polishing. A 300 GSM terry microfiber is the best all-round choice for general cleaning.

Lint-free and static-sensitive use

Electronics and optics need lint-free cloths. Polyester and microfiber shed no lint and resist many solvents, making them ideal for precision wiping; cotton lint makes it unsuitable for delicate surfaces. Note microfiber can build static in dry conditions—use anti-static treated versions where needed.

优质超细纤维可洗 300–500 次(约 2–5 年);勿用柔顺剂(堵塞纤维)、勿漂白(破坏尼龙)、勿与棉混洗(棉绒堵塞)。棉布可沸水与漂白更耐用,但寿命仅约 50–100 次。当超细纤维不再吸附干尘或留下水痕时应更换。

Quality microfiber lasts 300–500 washes (~2–5 years); avoid fabric softener (clogs fibers), bleach (destroys nylon) and mixing with cotton (cotton lint clogs). Cotton tolerates boiling water and bleach and lasts ~50–100 washes. Replace microfiber when it stops grabbing dry dust or leaves streaks.
